IV. — 20 ration for Harvard College at Phillips Academy,Exeter, New Hampshire; entered Harvard with-out conditions in 1865, and graduated in 1869,notwithstanding serious illness which compelled hisabsence during all of the second half of his Junioryear. He began the study of law at West Chester,Pennsylvania, with Hon. Wayne MacVeagh, andcompleted his preparation for the Bar with & Cornwell of the same place, having been appointed Minister to Tur-key. January i, 1872, he began the practice ofLaw nt \\est Chester, and since then has practised. \VM. S. WINDLE there. In 1S90, he entered into partnership withThomas S. Butler—now member of Congress—?and with Wm. Butler, Jr., now one of the Judges ofthe Courts of Chester county, Pennsylvania. Heis now associated with the Hon. Thomas S. Harvard, Mr. Windle, in his Freshman year, wastaken into the Delta Kappa Epsilon Club, and intothe Institute of 1770. Later, he was a member ofthe A. D. and Hasty Pudding Clubs, entering thelatter without initiation because of illness. June 16,1881, he married Mary, daughter of the Hon. , then Judge, since retired, of the DistrictCourt of the United States for the Eastern Districtof Pennsylvania, and of Letitia (Miner) children are : Charlotte Miner, 1882, LetitiaButler, 1884, and William Butler Windle, 1886. 3o6 UNIVERSITIES AND THEIR SO
