Heart disease drug research. Researcher testing the effectiveness of new beta-blocker drugs. Beta blockers (beta-adrenergic blocking agents) are used to manage patients with heart disease. They work by stopping adrenaline from making the heart work too hard, but they also worsen the symptoms of asthma and other respiratory conditions. This new drug is being developed to treat heart disease and angina without the negative effect on the respiratory system. Photographed at The University of Nottingham, England, UK.
