Six months' time will make canes that meas- ure one-half an inch or more in diameter. If they are given a year's growth they look like a young tree. The wood is sound and hard, not the soft, tender growth that comes from forcing. One- year plants here are fully as large and robust as 2-year plants grown in the north, a fact that does not acein to get across with rose growers who are not ac- quainted with southern conditions. One prospective purchaser complained be- cause the plants were so large, forget- ting that it takes no longer to produce such plants here than it does to get smaller ones in most other sections of the country.
