A true sign of spring in the Okanagan Valley is the emergence of the wild Arrowleaf Balsamroot flowers (Balsamorhiza sagittata), also known as the Okanagan Sunflower. Their brilliant yellow colour is spectacular particularly when seeing an entire hillside adorned with the flower. Balsamorhiza sagittata is a North American species of flowering plant in the sunflower tribe of the aster family known by the common name arrowleaf balsamroot. It is widespread across western Canada and much of the western United States.
