Jump-starting a car. Mechanics jump-starting the battery of a car at a breakers yard. Jump-starting uses a second battery (lower left) to provide power to a car with a flat battery. The two batteries are connected together with jump leads. Once started the alternator of the car will begin charging the flat battery, allowing it to run on its own.
