The soundness of his views on the most important articles of the Christian faith, his devotion as a parish priest, and his energy and skill as an Archdeacon in setting on foot and directing organisation for the promotion of Church work are recognised by the clergy of of the local that "Few more deserved such an elevation than our Archdeacon, and we know of none more capable, at this crisis of the Church of England, of being safely intrusted with Episcopal authority and rule".'
