It has beenclaimed for this bell that it is the oldest on this Continent; it maybe the most ancient within the limits of the United States, antedatingby three years the famous bell in the Dutch church at Tarrytown,N. Y., which bears the date 1685. The Cathedral itself is not oldwhen compared with some other church edifices in this country; itis, for example, nearly a hundred years more modern than the Tarry-town church just referred to.
