Caged Asian black bear in it's living area between performances for tourists in Yunnan National Park, Xinshuangbanna, China

Captive black bear kept in poor conditions in the National Park which is there to protect animals. This photograph emphasizes the dichotomy between tourism and the treatment of the animals the tourists wish to see in the Xishuangbanna, National Park, Yunnan province, China. This Park is visited mainly by Chinese tourists but increasingly by Western travelers too. The animals are brutally trained to perform for the tourists. This bear has been de-clawed, and also trained to stand / dance for long periods. The bear is shown in it's living quarters where it will stay until it is time, again, to perform for the tourists.
