Feira da Ladra (Thieves’ Market) Lisbon, Portugal. A male mannequin dressed in a short black jumper with toy guns along with posters, records and books on the sidewalk in front of a Shop in the famous two day a week open-air “Flea Market” in the Alfama district. The market (Tuesday and Saturday) dates back to the 13th century and has been in its current location in Lisbon since 1903. The Feira da Ladra, Ladra translates into English as woman thief, but it is believed that the market name comes from Ladro, Portuguese for bug or flea that is often found in antiques. While the market, selling everything from used household items to strange antiques, is frequented by locals, it has become a major tourist attraction in the city. The shop is one of many that ring the main building, the Culinarias do Mercado on Campo de Santa Clara. The shop caretaker (Right) sits reading a book.
