The street,in front of the hotel, is twisted far to one side, andhas dropped several feet below its level; the cabletracks, heavy concrete conduits on steel yokes, arebent sharply aside and broken, as if made of Howard street, two blocks away (just beyondthe fire line), a row of houses leaned drunkenly oneach other for support. Through here ran Wil-low Creek years ago; and even yet, perhaps some ofthe waters find their outlet beneath the loose soilwhich has been placed on the old bed.
