Tetanus vaccine being prepared for injection. This vaccine is being given to schoolchildren. Several doses are given in childhood to immunize against the disease. Tetanus is caused by Clostridium tetani bacteria, which produce a toxin that acts on nerves controlling muscle activity. Painful muscle spasms occur which may be fatal.
