They are representations of the four elements (earth, air, water and fire) and also possible different social positions. The animals represent the 'inverted world' of lust and evil. The silver ball with a twisted thread of pale gold is decorated all around, while on the top and bottom is a golden rosette. With this silver prayer snoot there is an 18th-century, red-covered box and a corresponding handwritten description that tells how small the nut is and what can be seen in it. sculptor: Northern NetherlandsDelft (possibly) Prayer snoot: Boxwood (Hardwood).
