The first and last ends of each section can, however,be attached to two diametrically opposite segments, the commutator cylinder in that case being-constructed with double the number of segments as in the former case, thus making the number of DYNAMO-ELECTEIC AND MAGNETO-ELECTEIO MACHINES, 477 segments double the number of sections. Two metallic plates or brushes, insulated from each other,press lightly upon the cylinder, at opposite points, so selected that while each section of wire on thearmature is passing from one neutral point to the other, the corresponding segments on the cylinderwill be in contact with them.
