If the breeders of Canarybirds would furnish therooms where they are kept with myrtles, or other sweetsmelling shrubs, in which they might make their nests,and take care to keep the room clean and well aired,it would not only contribute much to the beauty andhealth of the birds, but would be more agreeable tonature, less trouble to the owner, and would affordgreater gratification to the curious, than when they areconfined in small, and perhaps, dirty boxes, as is nowin many places the custom. The eyes are brown, the eye-lids white, the nostrilsround and naked. At the angles of the mouth are a fewblack hair-like feathers. The head is of a perfectmouse-colour, with a small dark line down the middleof each feather. The back is mouse-coloured, onlya little inclining to a red-brown near the tail. Thetail is composed of twelve feathers, all of an uniformdark mouse-colour. The first quill feathers are the same colour as thetail, only the tips are a little paler.
