The Golden Gate [p. 63)stands with its outside upon the wall, butwith its inside apparently upon rock. Thedifferent periods of building are easily dis-tinguishable. The wall, along which areplaced numerous Moslem tombstones, hereextends to a depth of 29-39 ft. below thesurface. Outside of the Haram wall Warrendiscovered a second wall, possibly an an-cient city-wall, buried in the debris. Thewhole of the corner of the Temple pla-teau, both within and without the enclosing.
