The planer is elongated rectangular and is decorated with symmetrical curly carvings on the front of the top. The wood carving forms a cartouche with the year 1762 in it. The initials AHS are cut on the front. A shallow channel is cut above the shoe. A slanted wooden wedge holds the chisel in place in the plane, 1882
