NORFOLK, Va. (March 1, 2017) Amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) Commanding Officer, Capt. Eric Pfister, speaks with media before the ship's departure from Naval Station Norfolk for a scheduled deployment. The Bataan is part of the Amphibious Ready Group (BATARG) deployment in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in Europe and the Middle East. BATARG also includes Commander, Amphibious Squadron 8, USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19), USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) and 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
