The fruits of his la-bors were so wonderful that, afterthe death of St. James of theMarch, he was chosen to succeedhim as the teacher and guide of allthe missionaries. He was knownin all the provinces of the Marchesas the holy Father, and wherever. he went, he was followed by crowdsof the people, who were often wit-nesses of his heroic virtues and ofthe signal graces obtained throughhis prayers. Julius Caesar Varani, Duke ofCanierino, highly esteemed Bl. Pe-ter and consulted him on all im-portant mat-ters. Hisdaughter, Va-rani, a PoorClare in theconvent atCamerino, re-joiced to havethe holy mis-s i o n a r y asher spiritualdirector, andunder his en-lightenedguidance, sheadvanced to ahigh degreeof religiousbrethren, ad-miring hisvirtue andlearning,thrice electedh i m Provin-cial in theProvince ofthe Marches,and once inthat of 1472, theGeneral Chapter held at Aquilasent him as Commissary to the is-land of Candia.
