Young Chief, Cayuse Indian 1891; cast 1906 Olin Levi Warner American "Young Chief, Cayuse Indian" was one of seven portraits of Native Americans that Warner modeled in 1891 while in Oregon. When Poor Crane, chief of the Cayuse died, Young Chief, who was living on the Umatilla reservation became head of the tribe, and held the position until his death in 1901. In contrast to Poor Crane, Seltice, and the other older Native peoples whom Warner depicted, Young Chief represented a younger generation who had adopted a Euro-American Young Chief, Cayuse Indian 13163
