London, Westminster Bridge, Big Ben and the Houses of Parlament. Built between 1739-1750 the old bridge was subsiding badly. The new brige was designed by Thomas Page and opened in 1862, The bridge has Gothic detailing by Charles Barry who was also architect of the Palace of Westminster. That dates from 1860, remaining elements of the original historic buildings include Westminster Hall 11th century, used today for major public ceremonial events such as lyings in state, and the Jewel Tower built originally to house the Royal
