Col. Eric S. Strong, commander of 1st Brigade, and Command Sgt. Maj. Eugene Russell, the brigade’s senior enlisted leader, uncased the brigade colors during a ceremony held on Ready First Field, Nov 17. The uncasing ceremony is an Army tradition that represents the definite point in time when a Brigade’s mission is complete. In the case of Ready First, the uncasing ceremony signifies the end of the unit’s mission in Afghanistan. After the Brigade colors were uncased, the Battalion and Squadron commanders repeated the process for their individual units.
