Within a moulded rim and border of stampeddots, Achilles seated on a rock to 1., with face turned tofront, fastening a sandal on his r. foot ; chlamjs overshoulders. Before him is a column on which is a crestedhelmet; from it are suspended his shield, sword, and spear. Diam. 2-S cm. Acquired 1894. 70. Cover of Mirror-Case. The cover is of polished silver,and in it is set a niodallion with design in relief represent-ing a revel of Dionysos, Eros, and Seilenos; round thedesign is a band of engraved wave-pattern between ringsof beading and of punctured dots. The three figures are represented dancing, facingto the front ; in the middle is Dionysos, who, with r. foot drawn back, looks roundat Eros on his 1., and places an arm on the shoulder of each companion. Dionjsoswears high boots and a wreath \vith ribbons falling over his shoulders.
