Captain Nysewander was leadinghis Company K, and as they were approaching theroad that ran from Bantheville to another village calledAincreville they were met by the fierce German bar-rage. Captain Nysewander immediately gave ordersto his men to seek what protection they could in theshell-holes or behind the bank of the road. While hewas giving these instructions, standing there sobravely with shells falling all about him, his onethought being the safety and protection of the men un-der his command, he met his soldiers death.
