Gen. Syn. vol. 4. In the Supplement to the General Synopfis of Birds, Mr. Latham hasadded the following account under the head Marsh In my Synopfis it has not appeared clear to me, whether the Cole-moufe and this were different fpecies. I find it to be the opinion ofSeppy that they form but one, being both figured in the fame platesas male and female. In one of them is a fpot of white on the hindhead, and the fides of the head are white: the throat black. Theother has the top of the head wholly black, and the black fpot of thethroat wanting. The neft feems here compofed of fedge, mixedwith large cafs-tail, lined with down and feathers: furnifhed withfive white eggs, mottled with red brown. The Colemoufe appears to be lefs injurious in gardens and orchardsthan others of the fame genus: it is alfo lefs numerous, and generallyinhabits woods. The length is four inches. It is found throughoutEurope and in America. PLATE. PLATE LXXX, CORyUS CARYOCATACTES. NUT C R ACKER. Pic^,Bill compreffed, convex. GENERIC CHARACTER.
