We have heretofore referred to the erection of thecounty of Hudson, in A. D,, 1840. We revert to it,for the purpose of presenting the interesting facts ad-verted to by the Hon. Joseph C. Hornblower, at thetime Chief Justice of the State of New Jersey, inhis address, on the occasion of the opening of the(/ourt House, erected during 1844-5, for the firsttime for the transaction of business, in which hesuccinctly exhibits the real character of the people. It is proper, however, first to state, that efforts weremade to secure the location of the pnbhc buildings inJersey City. And that, for a time, the Court Termswere held in the Lyceum Building, in Jersey City, andsubsequently in an apartment of the old hotel inXorth Bergen, (now Hudson), at the junction of the[N^ewark Turnpike and Hoboken Road. On the com-pletion of the Comt House, the public authorities ofthe County, the Chief Justice of the State, and theAssociate Judges participated in the exercises of theoccasion, on the 11th of March, A. D., 1815, so hap-pily affording opportunity for the venerable and longhighly honored Chief Justice to address the citizens,in his wonted, lucid, forcefu
