To work: Trace a 176 THE DICTIONARY OF NEEDLEWORK. group of flowers, or a bold Arabesque pattern, upon pinkcalico, tack the net to it, and outline all the design withlines of gold thread, Couched down, or with Button-hole worked with filoselle. Finish by Darning the silksin and out of the net, to fill in the leaves, or thick partof tbe design. Work the centres of flowers, and otherlight parts, with open Point Lace stitches, using the netfoundations as a background, or cut them away andsecure with Buttonholes. To work tbe Edging shown in Fig. 321: Trace thedesign, and lay the net over; tack the Braid down, andmake the Bars. Buttonhole the net where left as anedging, and Overcast the braid to the net where it isto be cut away. Work the sprays in Satin Stitch,. Embroidery on Nkt. untack the pattern, run the net on the wrong side tothe braid, close to where it is to be cut, and cut it awayfrom underneath the Bars.
