Bicol old rest house. Southeast Luzon. Philippines. Salceda revives Mayon rest house. The rest house was built initially by the Americans with seismological instruments to be used by the Philippines Astronomical, Geological and Seismological Agency. The Mayon Rest House is located half way to the tip of Mayon Volcano. Over the years, the rest house had been vandalized and many valuable materials lost to thieves. The volcano stands at 8,500 feet above sea level. The rest house also serves as the starting point for mountaineers who scale the majestic height of the volcano. Studies show that this side of the volcano, for over a hundred years, has been spared from lava flow every time the volcano erupts, while the other side, especially those facing Guinobatan, Camalig, and Daraga had seen the worst of volcanic debris and flaming lava flows.
