Jackson-Gwilt Medal, reverse side. This medal is awarded by the Royal Astronomical Society, London, UK, for outstanding achievements in astronomical research. It is named after Hannah Jackson-Gwilt (born Hannah Jackson). This side of the medal depicts the British astronomer William Herschel (1738-1822), one of the founders of what later became the Royal Astronomical Society. The medal was first awarded in 1897.
