Emperor Shomu (Shomu-tenno, 701-756), personal name Oshi-hiraki Toyosakura-hiko-no-mikoto, was the 45th emperor of Japan according to the traditional order of succession, ruling from 624 till 749. This emperor is traditionally venerated at a memorial Shinto shrine (misasagi) at Nara.
