The Egyptians believed in Cosmic order. and measured time by the annual cycle of the Nile and the daily progress of the sun across the is illustrated in a series of vignettes from the Book of the Dead, the papyrus of Ani. 1275 BC., depicting various gods associated with the progress from night, through day, to nightfall. In this vignette the God Tmu is seated in the Sun-disk in the bark of the setting sun. On the face of the sun the name of Tmu is written.
