Folding range with leaves on which in watercolor Eliezer, Rebecca at the source, on a frame of cut and painted ivory with mother -of -pearl, anonymous, c. 1745 - c. 1755 On the magazine, an episode from the particularly beloved Bible story about the bridal recruitment and the marriage of Isaac is depicted, which was frequently depicted on fan blades. The most used - so here - was the moment when Eliezer handed the jewelry and thus the actual proposal (Gen. 24:22). This is not surprising, since many of these fans were intended as a wedding gift. Eliezer was sent by Abraham to the city of Nahor to find a bride for his son Isaac. Once arrived at the source outside this city, Eliezer met Rebecca who gave him and his camels to drink and thus became the bride designated by God for Isaac. Eliezer gave her a nose ring and two bracelets of gold (Gen. 24: 11-23). It is striking that the image of the Bible text differs: Rebecca does not get a nose ring but a chain and the camels are missing. On the parchment magazine Rebecca and three women of water from the source. In the bushes, the servant of Eliezer is kneeling in an open box, on the right Eliezer runs on Rebecca, holding a chain in his vast hands. A framework of bumps and trees. The show is framed by an edge of flowers and leaves. Back side: two flower branches centrally on an empty leaf, along three edges a simple edge of flowers. The frame has three cartouches, the middle one a love couple with flowers, left wooden wind instrument with leaf music, right grape chocolates, peaches and a bird. The cartouches are surrounded by an open cut edge with flowers and fruits and crowned by a fruit basket with butterflies. Four rocaille ornaments, cut open, with mother -of -pearl. The support part of the closing legs is cut open and equipped with a mother -of -pearl back. The hand part of the closing legs is partially cut open and further painted. Straight shoulder. Copper closing pin with a mother -of -pearl disc there. 22 consecut
