The train, heralded as an innovative concept, is a converted London Underground Tube train that runs on diesel engines that provide electrical current to the trains traction motors. The D Train is believed to have been completing its final main line testing which had it completed without issue would have led to the introduction of the train on the Nuneaton - Bedworth - Coventry passenger service operated by London Midland. It is also understood that Warwickshire County Council had agreed to financially support the maintenance costs of the train.
