Our trees are budded or grafted on straight stems of the same species at a height of six to eight feet from the ground. To bring out their fine points it is important to prune them regularly every winter. A systematic thinning out of the branches which crowd and interfere, and by careful attention to the shortening in of the extending limbs, and cutting to an upper limb or bud, will do much to give the tree an arbor-like appearance.
