Tornado damage. Residents of an American suburb surveying their devastated neighbourhood after a force 5 (F5) tornado (twister) hit the area on 3rd May, 1999. A tornado is a violent, rotating column of air characterised by a funnel-shaped cloud. Winds in an F5 tornado travel between 420 and 512 kilometres per hour. Photographed in Moore, Oklahoma, USA. It was the first time Moore had been hit by an F5 twister and 1500 homes were destroyed.
