This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Sentinel-3 satellite launching into orbit, artwork. This Earth observation satellite mission has been developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the Copernicus Programme (formerly the European Global Monitoring for Environment and Security programme (GMES). The first of three Sentinel-3 satellites was launched on 16 February 2016 from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome aboard a Rokot launch vehicle. Their objective is to measure sea-surface topography, temperature of sea and land surfaces, and to record the colour of sea and land, for the purposes of environmental and climate monitoring.
