Community Activists Remove Fence Illegally Erected in Name of "Homeland Security"

Detroit, Michigan - Then State Representative Rashida Tlaib (now a member of Congress) joins community activists in southwest Detroit in tearing down a fence blocking access to part of Riverside Park. The fence was erected after 9-11 by the billionnaire owner of the Ambassador Bridge, which links the United States and Canada, wiping out basketball courts and a softball field. Residents turned to direct action after the bridge company ignored court orders to remove the fence. Tlaib, the Muslim daughter of Palestinian immigrants, represents the heavily Hispanic southwest Detroit.
