Upper Waitaki Hydro Development produces electricity from water flowing from the Southern Alps to the sea. The power station is situated in the Waitaki Valley near the small town of Twizel on the South Island of New Zealand. To harness electricity, the Upper Waitaki Hydro has two dams and six canals with eight power stations from Lake Tekapo to Lake Waitaki.
