On his ar-rival in Utah, he located in Moroni,Sanpete county, where he became anactive worker in the Sunday school, ris-ing from being a pupil to the position ofsuperintendent. He also served as acounselor in the Elders quorum. Dur-ing the existence of the United Orderin Moroni, in 1875-78, he served as sec-retary and director. He was ordaineda High Priest by Apostle Orson Hyde,May 28, 1874, and set apart as a HighCouncilor in the north end of Sanpetecounty, and he also served as a coun-selor in the presidency of the localHigh Priests quorum. In 1877 he was. den. He was baptized April 23, 1871,and on Oct. 1, 1872, he was ordained anElder and sent out to preach the gos-pel. He labored as a local missionarytill 1878, during part of which time hepresided over the Orebro and the Stock- BIOGRAPHICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA. 687 holm branches of the Church. la 1878he emigrated to Utah and settled InLog-an, Cache county. In 1882-84 hefilled a successful mission to Scandina-via, laboring in the Stockholm confer-ence, Sweden, first as a traveling El-der, and later as conference returned home in charge of a com-pany of emigrating Saints, with whichhe arrived in Salt Lake City Nov. 9,1884. Soon after his return home hewas ordained a Seventy, and in 1889 hewas chosen to be a president in the110th Quorum of Seventy. In March,1894, he changed his place of residencefrom Logan to Salt Lake C
