Kazimierz Stabrowski - Peacock - Portrait of Zofia Borucińska - 1908

"The inspiration for the creation of the group of portraits in fancy costumes was for Stabrowski the carnival ball of students of the School of Fine Arts he ran, which took place in the halls of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw on February 29, 1908. It went down in the history of culture under the name "Ball of Young Art". The interior of the room with stained glass windows, invitations, ballroom tickets and costumes were the work of the students and professors of the School. This painting is a portrait of Zofia née Jakimowicz Borucińska (1893-1969) - one of Stabrowski's students - in a tissue-paper disguise of a peacock. The artist referred to the eternal symbol of the vanity of human nature - the peacock, a bird belonging to the favorite motifs of modernist art." [Elżbieta Charazińska] - Kultura
