The town covers an area of 3fi,000 acres, and its populationat the time of the last census was 2,930. The chief industries of theplace are the manufacture of buckskin gloves, and the productionof photographic and stereoscopic views. Mr. B. W. Kilburns estab-lishment, which is devoted to this latter l)ranch of Inisiness, is thelargest of its kind in the world. One of tiie most prominent buildings in Littleton is the High Schooledifice, which is on the heights back of the town. The adjacent hillsafford noble views of the high mountains; and there are many pleasant 87. drives and rambles in the vicinit3^ The rapids of the ConnecticutRiver, known as tlie Fifteen-Mile Palls, border the town for a stretchof thirteen miles. Waterford, Vt., is only five miles distant, and Beth-lehem is about the same in the opposite direction. It is also a finedrive to Sugar Hill, through Franconia. Since last season many improvements have been made at Thayers,among which ma} be mentioned the building of a boat house upon theshore of the Ammonoosuc River, Avhich is at the roar of the boats can alwajs be had. AND Franconia is situated just north of Franconia Notch, and in the val-lej of Gale River, six miles over a pleasant stage road froni Littleton,and a little less from Bethlehem.
