The Gladiolus is one of the most beautiful Summer-flo\verin2: bulbs, and is increasing rapidly in popularity in dififerent parts of the world. This increase in public favor is only excelled by the wonderful improvement in the flowers themselves. The culture is very simple. They thrive in almost any good soil, except a stiff clay ; but require fall sunlight, and are very susceptible to injury from rank fertilizing. Plant the bulbs six to nine inches apart; the large ones four inches, and the small ones two inches deep. Make an early plaatiivj: of tlie >raallest bulbs first, as soon as the ground is suffi- ciently dry and warm, and continue to plant at intervals of t\\ w ecks daring tlie Spring and early Summer In this way a succession of bloom may be had from Midsummer until fro^t.
