The unsealed Oodnadatta Track north of Marree, South Australia
The old narrow-gauge Ghan railway linked Alice Springs and Adelaide, passing through low-lying and flood-prone areas near Lake Eyre, South Australia. The Oodnadatta Track follows the old railway route through Marree, William Creek and Oodnadatta. The new Ghan railway between Adelaide & Darwin is much further to the west.
