Cloister garden Dominican Monastery Old Town Tallinn Estonia
This Domicican Order was founded in 1216 by Saint Domenic Gusman a Spaniard to train theologians to preach the gospel across Europe The monks sold fish and ran a brewery to support themselves dressing in black cloaks over their white habit which led the townspeople to call them Blackfriars During the Reformation the friars were ousted and the monastery burned to the ground in 1524 Beginning in 1954 the former garden cloister and refectory were restored and used to display carved stones The museum rooms are sometimes used for celebrations and presentations and concerts are given in the garden
