Protesters say councils should refuse to implement it and call on people to stand together to boycott the pay-to-stay tax, resist evictions and block regeneration and estate demolitions. There was noisy shouting when a Southwark Councillor spoke, with many protesters calling their demolition of the Heygate and Aylesbury estates by Southwark a shameful example of exactly the kind of social cleansing this protest was against.
