Xanthoma. Light micrograph of a section through a xanthoma in connective tissue. Xanthomas are fat deposits often associated with hyperlipidaemia or high cholesterol. Treatment aims to lower the lipid (fat) levels in the blood by a diet low in cholesterol and high in polyunsaturated fat, and by use of cholesterol-lowering drugs.
