22/10/19 The sun sets behind the Old Coastguards House in Appledore, on the North Devon coast, casting stunning Crepuscular rays into the sky above the Taw and Torridge Estuary. Also known as "God rays" these sunbeams originate when the sun is below the horizon, during twilight hours. Crepuscular rays usually appear orange because the path through the atmosphere at sunrise and sunset passes through up to 40 times as much air as rays from a high midday sun.
