His healthbroke down during the campaignsin Georgia, and he received hishonorable discharge September,1864. Returning to Ohio, he waselected a member of the legislaturein 1866; the following year he be-came recorder of Hamilton coun-ty, and internal revenue super-visor in 1868. In 1872 he servedas a state senator and in 1875was elected lieutenant-governorof Ohio, becoming governor in1877, when Rutherford B. Hayes assumed the presi-dential office. During the railroad riots of thatyear, it is said that Gov. Young, on being asked tocall upon the general government for military aid,replied: No, not until the last man in Ohio Iswhipped. In 1878 Gov. Young was elected to con-gress, where he served four years. At the time ofhis death he was a member of the board of publicaffairs of Cincinnati. Gov.
