The Respirator is manufactured inhard rubber, or of brass nickel plated,made to fit accurately the mouth andlower part of the nose. A membrane inthe shape of a sieve separates the mainbody of the inhaler from a detachablecup (also perforated) for the receptionof absorbent cotton, sponge, lint oroakum, upon which is dropped theantiseptic to be used. Openings oneither side of the mouth-piece allow ofthe escape of exhaled air. The respi-rator is fastened behind the ears by thin^^ round elastic ribbons, or by spectacle wires, as desired. It is small and portable, the hard rubber instrument weigh-ing only one ounce. The antiseptic remedies chiefly used for more or lesscontinuous inhalation, are iodoform, eucalyptol (Sanders), creosote, phenicacid, and oil of
