In consequence of this new state of things, I was not called uponto listen to the vituperation and abuse of the missionaries that I hadbeen prepared to hear. A warfare was, however, kept up betweenthe individuals belonging to the rival nations of England and theUnited States, which afforded ample room for the tongue of scandalto indulge itself. The missionaries wisely abstained from all con-nexion with either party; and the governor, with much energy anddecorum, sustained with impartiality the supremacy of the STREET VIEW AT HONOLULU.
