The Scissors Dance is an ancestral andean dance with origins in the 16th century. It is a mixture of ritual, acrobatics and trance state, which develops to the rhythm and cadence of the metallic sound of a pair of iron scissors in the right hand of the "Danzac" (dancer) and in which the participants strive to demonstrate their superhuman abilities purportedly acquired with the aid of the devil and the andean gods.
